Meeting Venue
William H. Natcher Conference Center – Building 45
National Institutes of Health
45 Center Drive
Bethesda, MD 20814
301-496-9966
There are two ways to reach Building 45 from the Gateway Center: 1) walking or 2) taking the “NIH campus route” purple or red shuttle Employee Shuttles (nih.gov). Below are instructions for both options:
- Walking to the William H. Natcher Conference Center – Building 45: Upon clearing security at the Gateway Center, use the elevator in the Gateway Center to go up to the next surface level (ask for the location of this elevator), enter the NIH campus and follow a smooth, slightly-uphill asphalt path which leads directly to the entrance of the Natcher Conference Center. The distance is about 200 meters, or one-tenth of a mile.
- Taking the “NIH campus route” (purple, 5-minute travel time or red, 25-minute travel time) shuttle to the William H. Natcher Conference Center – Building 45: Take the “NIH campus route” (red or yellow) shuttle from the Gateway Center (once you have cleared security, enter the campus and wait for the shuttle at the stop which is inside the campus) to the Building 45 stop. You can also find more information on the shuttles at the following links: https://www.ors.od.nih.gov/pes/dats/NIHShuttleServices/Documents/LimitedPurple.pdf

Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is available throughout the William H. Natcher Conference Center; no access code is needed.
Snacks: Soda and snack vending machines are located in the galley areas of the upper level.
ATM: The ATM is located in the lobby on the first-floor level, A Wing.
Food and Beverage: Natcher’s cafeteria information is available here. The cafeteria is open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and again from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please note that the Natcher cafeteria is open during the conference lunch breaks both days, but it is not open during our short morning and afternoon conference breaks.
The NIH campus is located in Bethesda, Maryland, just 10 miles from the center of Washington, D.C.
Public Transportation: Metrorail service is available from Washington's Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and from Union Station (railway). Take Metro's Red Line to the Medical Center Station. The station's escalators exit onto the NIH campus. Pedestrians entering the campus will need to enter via Gateway Center, which is the main visitor entrance. Gateway Center is open Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Driving to NIH: When driving to NIH, plan some extra time to get through the security checkpoints at the visitor entrances to campus. Be aware that visitor parking lots on the NIH campus can fill up quickly. Consider taking public transportation.
For visitors arriving in vehicles, on motorcycles or on bicycles, the Gateway Vehicle Inspection Station (Building 66A), provides multiple inspection lanes and allows visitors to go through inspection and get a visitor badge in one centralized, efficient process. Vehicles enter the Gateway Center complex through a new roadway, "NIH Gateway Drive," just south of the intersection of the previous visitor entrance at South Drive and Rockville Pike. Vehicles that choose to bypass parking in MLP-11 will go through inspection and enter campus at Center Drive. (See Gateway Map: http://www.ors.od.nih.gov/maps/Pages/Gateway-Center-Map.aspx.)
Parking. Please note: Visitor parking is limited at NIH. Visitors are encouraged to use public transportation such as the Metrorail subway system, which has a convenient stop (Medical Center) on the NIH campus. Visit the Metro site for information on fares and schedules.
The Gateway complex includes MLP-11, a 342-space, multi-level underground parking garage. This "visitor-only" lot is the primary visitor parking for the NIH main campus. We strongly encourage all visitors who must drive to park in this garage, as visitor parking elsewhere on campus is limited. Vehicles parking in MLP-11 are outside of the perimeter security and will not go through vehicle inspection, reducing the amount of time it takes to get on campus.
Visitors parking in MLP-11 should proceed to the Gateway Center to get a visitor badge and either walk or take a shuttle bus to their destination.
The cost to park in MLP-11 is $2 per hour for the first three hours, $12 maximum for the entire day.
