Healthcare Innovation Cycle for "MedTech" Solutions

MedTech is broad term for electro/mechanical medical devices. Tracking data has been added to show an example of an early stage team at risk due to a focus on technology. Select any Maturity Level to see the core Requirements or select the Requirements themselves to see a description of what is involved in completing a requirement and curated resources.

Disease State Characterization

A description of the medical and clinical conditions surrounding the need you are addressing/problem solving.
The full nature of an unmet need should be understood to make sure it is worth pursuing and likely to have a solution with the resources that your team is likely to be able to access.
Follow the Stanford Biodesign methodology: 1. Assess Anatomy and Physiology: Describe the normal anatomy and physiology of the affected organ(s) and/or system(s). 2. Understand the Pathophysiology of the Disease: Address disease function, causal factors, and disease progression. 3. Understand Clinical Presentation: Profile the patient state associated with a disease. 4. Assess Clinical Outcomes: Elaborate on the morbidity and mortality rates associated with the disease. 5. Gather Epidemiology Data: Outline the incidence and prevalence of the disease, as well as dynamics in the area. 6. Evaluate the Economic Impact: Determine the overall cost of the disease on the system at large. 7. Assess and Summarize the Information: Capture the most important information gathered through the disease state research and compile it into an overview suitable for the target audience.
